Wolfram Alpha
Who ever thought Google would be blown out of the water? Google has been the internet heavy weight for so long, most of us forgot to even try to challenge it. But now Google may be taking the backseat. It seems there is a new ’search engine’ on the immediate horizon that will answer your question just like a human would AND give you relative sites to look at. The intelligence of Wolfram Alpha is so amazing it’s scary.
To highlight a snippet from one of the press releases:
“Wolfram Alpha will not only give a straight answer to questions such as “how high is Mount Everest?”, but it will also produce a neat page of related information – all properly sourced – such as geographical location and nearby towns, and other mountains, complete with graphs and charts.
The real innovation, however, is in its ability to work things out “on the fly”, according to its British inventor, Dr Stephen Wolfram. If you ask it to compare the height of Mount Everest to the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, it will tell you. Or ask what the weather was like in London on the day John F Kennedy was assassinated, it will cross-check and provide the answer. Ask it about D sharp major, it will play the scale. Type in “10 flips for four heads” and it will guess that you need to know the probability of coin-tossing. If you want to know when the next solar eclipse over Chicago is, or the exact current location of the International Space Station, it can work it out.
Dr Wolfram, an award-winning physicist who is based in America, added that the information is “curated”, meaning it is assessed first by experts. This means that the weaknesses of sites such as Wikipedia, where doubts are cast on the information because anyone can contribute, are taken out. It is based on his best-selling Mathematica software, a standard tool for scientists, engineers and academics for crunching complex maths.
“I’ve wanted to make the knowledge we’ve accumulated in our civilisation computable,” he said last week. “I was not sure it was possible. I’m a little surprised it worked out so well.”

Looking for a Hole in One Prize?
I’ve found one! If you are looking for a great golf tournament promotion and need golf insurance, I think I just found the perfect solution for you so I thought I’d share it:

National Hole in One (NHIIO or NHIOA) has paid out in excess of $50,000,000 is cash and prizes and has successfully insured over 300,000 tournaments the world over. Their events are well known to be special and unique, leaving the attending golfers asking when the next one will be.
Just a few of the benefits of working with NHIOA:
· They help your event so all players have an equal chance of winning. Even ladies get a true shot because they get to play from their regular Ladies Tee!
· They don’t place limits on the distance of play for your Grand Prize hole.

Business Growth for 2009
Five Simple Ways to Ensure Your Business Continues to Grow in 2009…
1. Review
Review what did and didn’t work in 2008. Keep doing what did work and stop doing what didn’t. It’s just that simple.
2. Indulge in Email Marketing
If you do this already, work on growing your list. If you haven’t even started, get in there! There are many ways to build email lists that are targeted to your audience. Just don’t spam anyone.
3. Dive into Social Media Marketing
Get into these sites and brand yourself as an expert. You’d be surprised how well these endevours pay off.
4. Offer Something for Free.
Give some value to your clients for free. This actually generates more sales. If you’re a spa owner, a free facial may turn into a purchased massage and a line of products.
5. Try Something New!
Don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. This is exactly what the most successful of all people have done. Make it a goal to go outside of your comfort zone once a month, then once a week, then once a day. Embark upon new strategies you never would be before and see what results you get.
HAPPY NEW YEAR’S from Write Ink Marketing!!! We wish you much success in 2009.
You know there are some things they just can’t teach in college. You learn many skills, sure — but they are work abilities skills. How about people skills?
What if you were to follow these rules in the office:
- Don’t engage in the office negativity or gossip. Rise above it and set an example to others how to not let negativity get to you. Let them see you happy and let that spread to others.
- Give compliments! Support your fellow teammates instead of competing with them. They just may reciprocate.
- Make your work stand out — because it is great, not because you are a suck up. Remember, no one likes a suck up, not even the one you are sucking up to.
- When you make a mistake, admit it and fix it. Immediately! Then learn from it for the next time. Don’t be afraid when you make a mistake. Have you met a human yet that doesn’t make mistakes?
- Get to know your co-workers personally, on a good level. This means don’t get too involved and don’t get pulled in to any drama or anything like that, but treat them as fellow humans, not objects at your work.
- Don’t forget the small stuff. Details are important and every task is needed. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you are too good to do a task for newsbies or interns or assistants. Do these too to show you are completely committed to whatever it takes.
Why not just try some of these things for a while and see if your boss doesn’t start to notice your abilities and how pleasant and positive you are. She may just start to see leadership abilities in you. Who knows what would happen then.
