Seth Godwin Does it Again

Most of you know Seth Godwin, marketing guru, from his ever-so-popular book, Purple Cow:  Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable, http://www.sethgodin.com/purple/, which teaches on the art of standing out among the crowd, being different and unique, thus winning business from others.

Now he’s done it yet again with another awesome book, All Marketers Are Liars.  He even has a blog for it: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/all_marketers_are_liars/

He also has a video series in regard to the book where he goes over marketing ads and tactics that are “broken,” meaning, they just don’t work.  Go to YouTube and search for “Seth Godwin All Marketers Are Liars” and you will see a series of three videos.

He definately a marketer to follow and to learn a great deal from.  Not all marketers know what they are talking about.  The purpose of his new book is teach us how to tell the truth to a world that no longer trust marketers.  Very interesting…

Added Value. How Far Does it Get You?

Well, how far are you willing to take it?  Know that you have to add value to your business services or products in order to ensure sucess.  Why?  In essense, people want to feel like they are not only getting more than they paid for, but they are getting something of greater value.

Think about it this way – if you are shopping for a low calorie cookbook and you come across one that comes with a free calorie counter when all of the others don’t, which one are you most likely to buy?  What about the shampoos that come with a free conditioner?  How many times have you bought a new brand of shampoo just to get the free conditioner?  It works!  It’s worked on you several times and it’s worked on each and every one of us several times.  Don’t you love telling someon else, “And I got this for free?”  You feel like you got something over on someone when you get something “for free.”

This is actually a simple marketing tactic, but it’s a smart one.  Any time you can produce an added service or include an addititve product to go with the primary product you are selling, you really should.  You’re almost guaranteed to see a spike in sales.  We say almost because if you do something silly like offer a free toothbrush with candle set, then we really can’t help you there.

You’ll also be making repeat customers or clients who will joyfully spread positive word about you.  This gets you even more business.  Now that’s a win-win situation.
